The kill-switch precedent

The Trump administration used export-control law built for chips and reactors to shut down two of Anthropic's newest models over a cybersecurity dispute, then reversed course three weeks later. It was the first time the tool had been pointed at AI software instead of hardware.

The preemption argument

A bipartisan draft would set one federal rulebook for building AI and bar states from writing their own for three years. The states already doing the regulating call it a giveaway.

The open-weights argument

Whether frontier models should ship with their weights open has hardened into two coherent camps that aren't really speaking to each other any more.
